A procession is held were Catholics, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, hoisted in a monstrance by the officiating priest, take to the streets to profess that Jesus Christ truly is the King of Kings and the Universal Ruler.
The Feast of Christ the King is an age old celebration established in 1925 by Pope Pius XI. Up until 1969 when the celebration was moved to the last Sunday of Ordinary Time immediately preceding the Season of Advent, in the revised liturgical calendar promulgated by Pope Paul VI, it was celebrated on the last Sunday in October.
"Thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so will i tend my sheep. I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark" Ezekiel 34:11 - 12.
The reading above, taken from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, depicts Christ as the Supreme Being. The Prophet Ezekiel is one of the four Major Prophets of the Old Testament, prophesying between 593-571 B.C.
